Plan Overview
This document outlines the coverage plan for accidental damage, theft, and other specific incidents pertaining to Instructional Mobile Devices checked out from Miami-Dade County Public Schools. This coverage plan aims to clarify the responsibilities of the user and the scope of covered incidents.
Scope of Coverage
This coverage plan expressly covers any device in the possession of and checked out to the named student in the plan.
The covered device must be issued and recorded via IncidentIQ, Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ asset management system.
Claim Limitations
- The plan covers a maximum of three (3) claims per academic year.
- However, only one (1) stolen claim may be covered per academic year.
- And only one (1) screen repair may be covered per academic year.
- Thereafter, should there be a total loss, the cost of full replacement is the sole responsibility of the assigned user and their parent/guardian.
Coverage Term
Coverage for the Break/Fix Plan is for the current academic year, effective from the date of purchase. All plans expire on June 30th of the current academic year. The $30 Break/Fix Plan Fee includes a non-refundable $1.17 transaction fee. Break/Fix Plans are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged, prorated, sold, or transferred
Included Coverage
Accidental Damage Coverage:
This plan covers unforeseen physical damage to the device resulting from accidental handling. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Cracked Screens
- Liquid Spills
- Full Immersion (e.g., drops in a pool)
- Damage caused by pets (e.g., chewed by a dog)
- Other accidental damages resulting from normal handling.
Theft/Stolen/Burglary Coverage:
Coverage is provided for devices stolen under specific circumstances, demonstrating a reasonable effort by the user to secure the device. This includes incidents where the device is stolen from:
- A secured and locked car.
- A secured and locked home.
- A secured and locked locker.
Flood, Fire, and Vandalism Coverage:
This plan extends to damage incurred due to environmental factors or malicious acts by a third party. This includes damage to a device resulting from:
- Flooding
- Fire
- Vandalism by someone other than the device’s user
Not Covered
This plan explicitly does not cover the following circumstances:
- (a) Intentional Damage, Misuse, or Abuse: Any damage to the device resulting from deliberate actions, improper use, or abuse by the user or anyone under their direct supervision.
- (b) Pre-existing Conditions: Any failure, damage, or loss that occurred prior to the device being checked out to the current user and before the effective date of this plan.
Lost Coverage:
This plan does not include coverage for lost or misplaced devices. The user to whom the device is checked out is solely responsible for the device throughout the entire period in which the device is checked out to them. This includes instances where the device is:
- Left unattended in a classroom
- Left unattended in a public/non-public place
- Left in an unlocked car
- Left in any other unsecured or unsupervised location
User Responsibility
The user to whom the Instructional Mobile Device is checked out bears full responsibility for the device from the moment of checkout until its return to Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Users are expected to exercise reasonable care and diligence in protecting the device from damage, loss, or theft. Failure to adhere to the terms of this plan may result in financial responsibility for replacement or repair costs.
